*Stage (1) Waking in the Morning* 1.1 I have a restful night, (if the phone didn't wake me). 1.2 At home, I check the Log Files and Traffic. 1.3 Then I drive to work and consider today's likely tasks :- Maintaining databases. Performance tuning Backup and recovery Registering new users (and removing old ones) Allocating End-User Privileges.

Stage (2) At work

2.1 When I arrive at the office, I check my emails, especially those that report system errors and performance.
2.2 New Users arrive to be set-up with Accounts.
2.3 For my Oracle Databases,I use TOAD from Quest software to help me.
2.4 The system crawls and response times get too long.
So I run some of my Trouble-shooting Scripts.
2.5 My manager calls me in, and asks me to prepare a Plan for a Database Review.
2.6 I make a start by reverse-engineering Data Models using ERWin, (from CA),our standard Data Modelling Tool.
2.7 Then I leave the building to get some lunch and fresh air.


*Stage (3) The End of the Day* 3.1 Take care of any critical Tasks still outstanding. 3.2 Set-up overnight Jobs :- Performance Monitoring Backups Data Import/Export 3.3 Leave for home after a challenging and interesting day. I spend a little while browsing through one or two interesting online Magazines, starting with the Intelligent Enterprise.
