Tools for the DBA

Over a period of time, a DBA will usually put together a library of different software utilities.
For example, Shell Scripts and SQL Scripts. The general trend is towards more automation of common repetitive tasks, and for a Production DBA, this means more opportunity to get involved in different areas such as Data Architecture.

TOAD	Quest	$250	Tool of choice for maintaining data and checking table definitions in Oracle databases.	Recommended - Toad plugs a major gap in Oracle's software tools. I have been in places where Oracle employees have used and recommended TOAD. Toad also supports Reverse Engineering of Oracle Databases into Data Models.
